Understanding the Relationship Between Lexapro and Alcohol
Lexapro is a very powerful drug. It is important that anyone ever prescribed this drug be aware of what it can do and of how to take it properly. You never want to fool around when it comes to prescription medications and the same goes for Lexapro. Before you can understand about Lexapro and alcohol or any other issue having to do with this drug, it is important to be aware of the basics and what Lexapro does to the body
Lexapro is a drug that is considered as being in a class of drugs known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. These drugs are more commonly referred to as SSRIs and are used quite often. Doctors more than ever before are prescribing these sorts of drugs to their patients, for an array of different reasons.
The main reason that Lexapro is prescribed is to treat anxiety and depression. The point is that the Lexapro is expected to increase the person’s serotonin and as a result they will end up feeling happier.
Lexapro is a drug that can work quite well when taken properly but when there is a combination such as Lexapro and alcohol for instance, there can be problems. Lexapro and alcohol are not meant to be taken together and when they are, not only will the Lexapro not work properly but you can actually be putting yourself at risk. This is why when doctors prescribe the drug they say that you should not ever mix Lexapro and alcohol.
You can start to feel dizzy and lightheaded and you can even throw up after you have had a few drinks if you are on the Lexapro. Remember, the point of this drug is to make the person feel happy, to lift them up, and alcohol is considered as being a downer so basically the two are working against each other.
You can end up very sick if you combine Lexapro and alcohol and so if you have a problem with anxiety or depression or of any other sort for that matter and your doctor has prescribed you this drug, you want to stay away from alcohol and certainly at least for a month or so until the drug has had time to work on the body and the body has become a bit more accustomed to it.
It is important to always be safe and smart when using prescription drugs so never mix with alcohol.
